5 New Noteworthy Twitter Tools

Twitter seems to have captured the public’s imagination lately, with dozens of tools appearing that enhance the service.  We’ve rounded up our 5 favourites here.  Get in touch if you’d like us to review one you’ve built!

1. GroupTweet

GroupTweet homepage

GroupTweet allows a central Twitter account to automatically forward direct messages to whoever follows it.  The relationship has to be set up both ways, so the group members must also be followed.

An account must be set up specifically for your group, which GroupTweet will remember.  So although you have to expose your account details to the service, it’s only for the group itself rather than your personal accounts.

2. Hashtags

Hashtags homepage

Hashtags lists all #tags on Twitter.  This makes it easy to find popular topics that people are tagging, or find out if a tag has been used for a subject you’d like to tweet.

3. Twibs

Twibs homepage

Twibs is a business directory for Twitter.  It lists businesses who post on the service, and allows customers to look up companies too.  It has a featured section and search, but doesn’t currently provide any other useful stats.

4. TweetEffect

TweetEffect homepage

TweetEffect tracks when followers are gained or lost for a given account.  There’s no authentication so it’s possible to look up any account, which is interesting (try big names like stephenfry and scobleizer).

TweetEffect is definitely useful for finding people who follow you then leave just as you follow them back.

5. TweetFu

TweetFu homepage

TweetFu is like Google Trends for Twitter:  enter two terms then see which is talked about most often.  It’s fun to track the trends it highlights with RSS, too.
